Local climate action took centre stage at the latest Wandsworth Sustainability Network.
This week, more than 60 attendees including residents, businesses, voluntary groups and the council gathered for the ninth Wandsworth Sustainability Network, which included an open forum to share local climate initiatives, a vibrant green marketplace and networking opportunities.
The event highlighted the borough’s Biodiversity Action Plan, with interactive sessions for participants to share ideas and local knowledge about how to support wildlife, restore habitats and connect with nature.
Hosted at the Doddington and Rollo Community Centre and Rooftop Garden in Battersea on 9 September, the event included chance to learn more about the flourishing green space with an informative tour.
Attendees could taste freshly-grown produce from the half-acre garden, which is on the roof of a former car park and inspired an RHS Chelsea Flower Show gold medal-winning garden in 2023.

Paul White, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “It’s really positive to see so many residents, businesses and community groups joining the Wandsworth Sustainability Network and bringing their wealth of local knowledge and expertise to the table.
“The Wandsworth Sustainability Network is all about creating a space for inspiring conversations that spark collaboration around sustainability in our borough, and we’ve seen just how passionate people are about taking real action on climate issues.
“It’s so exciting to be able to support the incredible initiatives that are taking place in Wandsworth, and share the council’s priorities on sustainability and meeting our commitment to becoming a carbon net zero borough by 2043.”

Launched in November 2022, the Wandsworth Sustainability Network has brought together local communities alongside businesses, non-profit organisations and the council to collaborate on climate-focused issues.
A marketplace featured groups including the Tooting-based Work and Play Scrapstore, Balham Climate Action, Southfields initiative Green the Grid, community impact company Power to Connect, and Happy Homes.

Council teams from across climate change, waste, air quality and biodiversity were also on hand to share information and answer questions, alongside not-for-profit community energy group Crew Energy.
Wandsworth’s first-ever Sustainable September last year engaged more than 4,500 attendees across 69 community-led climate action events – and 2025 is even bigger and better with more than 90 events taking place across the month.
