Multi-Faith Group

The Multi-Faith Group was set up following discussions with faith representatives in Wandsworth after 11 September 2001. Since its first meeting in February 2002 it has met regularly and has organised an annual multi-faith event for local secondary school pupils called Faith Direct.

The group meets three times a year and is chaired by the Leader of the Council. Its membership reflects the main faith communities, as identified through the Census. The aims of the Wandsworth Multi-Faith Group meetings are:

  • To update and inform representatives about important local developments and seek faith community feedback on them,
  • To explain the various consultation exercises planned where faith communities’ input would be helpful,
  • To discuss any issues of mutual interest, and
  • To provide an opportunity to resolve potential concerns or tensions quickly and effectively.

Administrative support is provided to the meeting by the Council's partnerships team. The group does not receive any grant funding and all members attend as volunteers.
