About Nine Elms

The Nine Elms area of Wandsworth has been the focus of a large-scale regeneration project running from Battersea along the river towards Vauxhall and Lambeth.

The area includes:

Job opportunities

Thousands of jobs are being created through the construction process and in the new shops, offices, hospitality and community facilities which are built.

Job and training opportunities in Battersea and Nine Elms are available through our Work Match free jobs brokerage service which matches local applicants to employment opportunities in the area. Find out more about Work Match jobs and training.

Transport links

The Tube runs to the area with Northern Line stations at Battersea Power Station on Battersea Park Road and Nine Elms on Wandsworth Road. Plan a journey (Transport for London).

Upgrades are planned to local overground rail stations, with a second entrance due to open for Queenstown Road station and improvement works planned for Battersea Park station.

The railway arches are part of a Low Line project for the area.

A new pedestrian and cycle network is being created, with improvement works underway on Nine Elms Lane and Battersea Park Road, and further investment to improve Queenstown Road.

Health

New and improved health facilities are being provided for local residents. A new NHS health centre on Sleaford Street, SW8 is expected to open in early 2026 as part of our infrastructure investment for local communities.

The building is being fitted out as a state-of-the-art primary care facility improving health services for residents living in the area.

We are working closely with a local GP practice with the expectation that they will occupy the new space when it opens. The NHS will be writing directly to registered patients to keep them updated as soon as the next steps are confirmed.

Education

A new building for a two-form entry primary school and nursery, with community space, is being constructed on the former South London Mail Centre site between Nine Elms Lane and Ponton Road, facing onto the new linear Nine Elms Park.

St Mary’s RC Primary School, St Joseph’s Street, was fully redeveloped and upgraded as part of the Battersea Exchange development near Battersea Park station.
