The council is working with top local firms and public sector organisation to set up the Supply Wandsworth network to give local businesses a direct line to major buyers.
A recent Buyer’s Breakfast brought together top local firms and organisations to discuss how local procurement could be used to revitalise communities and create economic growth and how the Supply Wandsworth procurement strategy could be developed.
The Deputy Leader of Wandsworth Council Kemi Akinola went along, and attendees included Peabody Housing, L&Q, Ballymore, Roehampton University, South Thames College and Battersea Power Station.
The aim is to create a network of public and private sector leaders in procurement, sustainability, social value and community development that will work in partnership to set up local supply chains.
Businesses who want to supply the network will be paired up with relevant buyers and supported to get ready to compete for contracts.
Cllr Akinola said: “It was great to meet so many people from the local business community and to see major players in the borough working with us to fulfil their social commitment.
“We want to make sure all our businesses from all the borough benefit from this, so are keen to engage with organisations interested in procuring locally, and firms keen to supply their goods and services.
“Help us develop the network, shape the strategy and support our firms to thrive.”
