Candidates announced for West Putney ward by-election on 2 May

Residents living in West Putney ward will have four candidates to choose from at a local by-election being held on Thursday, 2 May.

The by-election has been called following the resignation of Councillor Claire Gilbert and will be held on the same day as elections for London Mayor and the London Assembly.
The four candidates standing in the by-election represent the Conservative, Labour, Lib-Dems and Green parties.
People who are eligible to vote but not registered to do so will need to register their details before midnight on Tuesday, 16 April if they want to participate in this by-election. Registering can be done simply and easily online and takes only a few minutes.
To be eligible to vote in this by-election you must:
• Be registered to vote
• Live in West Putney ward
• Be at least 18-years-old on the day of the elections
• Be a British citizen, a European Union citizen or a Commonwealth citizen who has or does not require leave to remain in the UK
Residents living in the ward who would like to vote but cannot do so in person on the day can apply to vote by post or by proxy.
The deadline to register to vote by post in these elections is 5pm on Wednesday, 17 April.

Residents are being reminded that if they wish to attend a polling station to vote in person they are now required to show photographic ID under new Government rules.

Residents who don’t have suitable ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate - but they must do so by 5pm on Wednesday, 24 April.
Polling stations will be open on May 2 between 7am and 10pm.
