The ASB reports received by both the council and the police included reports of drug related ASB, defecating, urinating and rough sleeping in the communal areas.

The council was successful in its application to Wimbledon Magistrates Court for a block wide closure order. This order will restrict entrance to the block to only those individuals that have a legitimate reason to be there and are residents of the block.

This action has been part of a wider approach by the council and its partners to respond to the concerns from local residents, other action has included:

  • A successful police raid on premises associated with crime and ASB and arrests
  • Regular police patrols
  • Regular communication with residents to keep them updated on action taken
  • Multi-agency engagement events
  • Regular cleaning of the block

Graeme Henderson, Cabinet Member for Health, said: “We take community safety seriously, working with key partners such as the police is important and listening to residents' concerns and taking action against anti-social and criminal behaviour in the area is a priority for us.

“In addition to a range of other measures, we hope that this court order will prevent the type of behaviour reported to the police and council and provide a safer environment to live in for all residents.”

Anyone in the block without a legitimate reason will be in breach of the order and would be liable to be arrested.
