2,000 free bulky waste collections booked in the first month

As part of the new service, every household in Wandsworth gets two free bulky waste collections a year, worth £47 per household and saving residents a lengthy trip to the tip. 

 We'll take up to four items or 12 sacks of waste for free on each collection. 

The bulky waste collection service offers home collections for larger items such as mattresses, furniture and appliances like washing machines, fridges and freezers, or anything too big to fit in your normal bin.  

Judi Gasser, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “Spring is right around the corner, making it the perfect time to have a clear-out and use your free bulky waste collections. 

“This service has been paired with a commitment to retain weekly waste and recycling collections, alongside expanding much-loved Mega Skip Days which now take place twice a month. We’re doing this while maintaining the lowest Council Tax in the country.

This announcement was made alongside our new 7 rings, 7 days guarantee.  

The new 7 rings guarantee means calls to our dedicated 020 8871 6000 number will be answered by a member of staff within 7 rings. A new email address of hello@wandsworth.gov.uk is also available for residents to get in touch.  

We recognise that good customer service must be paired with swift action to resolve the issues raised. If a resident reports graffiti, a broken street sign, or a dangerous pothole, it will be fixed within 7 days. This is to ensure everyone can have pride in their neighbourhood. 

Simon Hogg, Leader of Wandsworth Council, said: “The 7 rings, 7 days guarantee is here to make it easier to contact us and to give assurance that if you report graffiti, a dangerous pothole or broken street sign, we will take swift action to fix it.

Bulky waste is collected in each area on the same day as your usual rubbish and recycling collection days. With over four times the number of appointments available daily, you should not need to wait longer than a week for your free bulky waste collection.
