Popular free Mega Skips are doubled

The borough has seen a significant 16 percent reduction in fly-tipping over the past two years, thanks to the introduction of free monthly Mega Skips and enhanced enforcement measures.

Due to this success and popular demand, the number of Mega Skip locations each month will be doubled so more residents can be supported to get rid of bulky waste for free – saving them money and making it less likely that unwanted household items will be dumped in the street.

In 2022/23 Wandsworth had the third lowest number of recorded fly-tips in inner London, which is partly attributed to the scheme.

Cabinet Member for Environment Judi Gasser said: “We know that Mega Skips work – they are convenient for residents, make disposing of household items accessible and are free for everyone to use.  Together with the hard work of our enforcement team, they have led to a reduction in fly-tipping.

“Mega Skip Days are part of our Cleaner Borough plan to make it easier and safer for local people to do the right thing.“
