Sustainable September is a month of community action to tackle climate change and champion local sustainability initiatives. Wandsworth Council is working with local groups and organisations to highlight the best of what the borough has to offer.

Judi Gasser, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said: “Following the success of last year’s Great Big Green Week, we realised we couldn’t showcase all of the amazing work going on in Wandsworth in just one week. This year we’re going all out throughout September, with loads of free activities and fun ways to engage with issues around climate change, air quality, and biodiversity. I encourage you all to take a look at what’s on offer and get involved in events near you.

“We have set tough carbon reduction targets for Wandsworth, and we are working with groups and communities all over the borough to achieve them. The Sustainable September activities give a taste of some of the fantastic work going to change minds and behaviours and to meet the climate change challenge.”

Many of the local events have been founded by Wandsworth Council which has awarded over 10k of climate microgrant funding to 25 projects so far this year. Climate Microgrants continue monthly with the last deadline of the year on November 22 to apply for funding.

The sustainability drive continues beyond September, with the Wandsworth Sustainability Network meeting in Battersea Ironsides Sports Club on 9 October. At the meeting, residents will have the opportunity to hear from the council and speakers about climate change and sustainability, as well as network with other people and local businesses who are passionate about sustainability. Book your space at the Wandsworth Sustainability Network.

Other Sustainable September highlights include:

Bat walk – Wandsworth Common – 5 September,
Climate Awareness Workshop – Balham – 7 September,
Collage night at the library – Southfields – 25 September, and
