The Mayor joined 120 other volunteers at the AFC stadium in Plough Lane to raise money for homelessness charities and the Dons Local Action Group which provides food parcels and other necessities to local people in need.

“It was cold and uncomfortable, but I know it was absolutely nothing compared to what homeless people endure every night sleeping out in our city and I’d like to thank everyone who donated.  Please also consider giving some food if you see the Dons collecting outside your local supermarket, or think about volunteering.”

The Mayor also went along to the Ronald McDonald House at St George’s Hospital in Tooting last week to help decorate the Christmas tree.

The Decorate in December event was one of 12 happening simultaneously in Ronald McDonald houses around the UK. The houses provide free accommodation to families with a child in hospital and include a kitchen and lounge to enable some sense of normal family life to continue.

Cllr Ambache said: “It was my absolute pleasure to visit the Ronald McDonald House Tooting for the first time and to lend a hand, as they prepare for Christmas. The House provides an incredible service for families at a critical time of need and the staff and volunteers are so dedicated and passionate about what they do. I hope the tree and decorations help to bring some hope and a sense of normality to the families staying here over the Christmas period.”

On December 9 the Mayor is hosting Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree. Enjoy an evening of food, drink, a raffle, live music and a stand-up comedian in Wandsworth Town Hall’s Marble Hall.

Money raised will go to the Mayor’s charities SEN Talk, which helps children with autism and ADHD, and the Wandsworth Bereavement Service which provides one-to-one counselling to bereaved people in Wandsworth.
