Councillor Kemi Akinola, Deputy Leader of Wandsworth Council, has welcomed news that the main post office in Wandsworth town centre is to relocate a few hundred yards along the high street to new premises that will offer customers longer opening hours.

The post office will move from its current home at 54-60 Wandsworth High Street to a more modern and upgraded retail outlet at 159 Wandsworth High Street - previously a TSB bank branch.

All the current services will be retained in the new branch meaning customers will be able to continue accessing the full range of post office products and services.

The new branch will have four serving positions, one screened and two open plan in a dedicated area of the store that will offer the full range of post office services including a low-level serving counter, a low-level writing desk, a hearing loop wand and space for a wheelchair.

The new branch will open on Thursday June 1st and will be open for an additional 14 hours a week making it more convenient to visit.

Councillor Akinola, who is also Cabinet Member for the Voluntary Sector, Business Engagement and Culture, said: “This is a welcome announcement as it means main post office services will continue to be available in the high street for the foreseeable future. It removes a degree of uncertainty because the current premises were only available on a short-term basis.

“Post offices provide crucial access to a wide range of community services including banking. Residents and businesses will still be able to access a full range of post office services in their town centre.

“And it’s great that the new post office will be open for business for 14 extra hours each week. This is good news for local residents and businesses who rely on the post office for everyday services.”'
