Council committee chairs set to be appointed

The council has announced the names of councillors who will chair the town hall’s key committees.

There are Six Overview and Scrutiny Committees (OSCs) which make recommendations to the council’s main decision-making body – its Executive. These committees scrutinise the Executive’s decisions and assist in the development of policy. They are:

Children’s Committee

Environment Committee

Finance Committee 

Health Committee

Housing Committee

Transport Committee

The Health Committee's remit also covers the operation of health services and consultation on proposals for development by NHS bodies.

There is also a Grants Sub-Committee and a series of other committees including 'Regulatory' committees whose decisions are governed by legislation. These are:

Licensing Committee

Regulatory Licensing Committee

Planning Applications Committee

General Purposes Committee

Joint Pensions Committee

Audit Committee

Standards Committee

The names of councillors being appointed to chair these committees are as follows:

  • Transport – Clare Fraser
  • Children’s – Sheila Boswell
  • Environment – Claire Gilbert
  • Housing – Paul White
  • Health – Kate Forbes
  • Planning Applications – Tony Belton
  • Licensing – Maurice Mcleod
  • Grants – Jeremy Ambache
  • Audit – Denise Paul
  • Joint Pensions – Norman Marshall
  • Standards – Sara Apps

These appointments will be formally made at the council’s Annual General Meeting this week.
