Wandsworth has been greatly enriched by our residents of South Asian heritage and is proud to celebrate their history and culture. We have funded a range of community events, and there will also be displays and activities in our libraries.

Age UK Wandsworth

Throughout South Asian Heritage Month, Age UK Wandsworth has been running a series of weekly workshops on South Asian Art, inviting elders from the South Asian community in Wandsworth to explore creativity and tell stories through painting and drawing. These workshops are culminating in a public exhibition at Alton Arts Hub in Roehampton.

Pagrav Dance 

Join Pagrav Dance’s Belonging Project for kathak dance and rangoli workshops, performances, and more to celebrate, explore, and reclaim the stories behind our South Asian names.

Choogh Choogh

Choogh Choogh by Beeja Dance Company is an interactive performance specially designed for 2 to 7 year-olds and their grown-ups, inspired by the joy of travelling through India on a train. It combines classical Indian dance with contemporary movement, theatre and play. 

Both performances will be followed by a 15min play with the performers and their props.

Northcote Library

Northcote Library is holding a craft time to celebrate South Asian Heritage Month.

Wandsworth Carers' Centre

Wandsworth Carers' Centre will host a celebration of South Asian cuisine and culture for local carers at Balham Baptist Church. There will be dishes on offer from Nepal, Pakistan, India, Bhutan, Afghanistan, The Maldives, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh. There will also be examples of South Asian art and a dance performance by Akademi. Call the Carers' Centre on 020 8877 1200.
